Located in a forest that was heavily logged in the second half of the 19th-century, Lumberman's Monument stands about 14 feet tall in tribute to all of the loggers in the industry. The park is open year-round at no charge to visitors. It features pathways that have exhibits and signs, a visitor's center, and sand dunes that lead to the Au Sable.
Not far away, located on the high banks of the Au Sable River is Iargo Springs. Its observation deck provides a perfect panoramic view of the river. Follow the stairway down through the wildflowers and old-growth hardwoods to the natural springs, two of which have dams. There is a boardwalk, resting areas, and interpretive signs. See who can get to the top of the stairs the fastest and count them all on the way!
